DJ Jasz: A Journey Through
the Beats

BIOGRAPHY
Junius, or DJ Jasz, as he is known in the music world, discovered his love for music at a tender age. With their soulful tunes, the Jackson Five left an indelible mark on him, showing him the profound influence music can have on our emotions and memories. His upbringing in Houston, Texas, saw him spinning records at family gatherings and reunions, where he delved into a wide array of genres, from funk and disco to jazz, country, R&B, and hip hop.
His journey took a significant turn when he attended Howard University. He honed his skills there by working as an announcer at the college radio station WHBC. Using the station's equipment and a pair of belt-driven turntables, he mastered the art of mixing and remixing popular songs. His talent quickly made him a sought-after DJ for campus and house parties.
After graduating, he founded Jasz Unlimited, a DJ service that quickly gained a reputation for its versatility and creativity. DJ Jasz became a fixture in D.C.'s nightlife, performing at prestigious nightclubs such as The Ritz, Calabash, Milo's, Chapter III, and the Ft. Belvoir N.C.O. Club. This eventually landed him a slot as a mix-show D.J. on Washington, D.C.’s leading radio station, WPGC 95.5 and a position as a music reviewer with Toronto’s leading music magazine, Streetsound. His unique talent for seamlessly blending various genres made him a popular choice for parties hosted by local politicians, corporations, and celebrities.
Despite retiring from spinning in 1999, DJ Jasz's unwavering love for music brought him back in 2021. His return to the scene has been met with great excitement, and he has quickly rebuilt his following through multiple online social networks.
DJ Jasz's journey is a testament to his enduring passion for music and his remarkable ability to adapt and thrive in an ever-changing industry. His resilience in the face of industry changes is truly inspiring.
